It all depends on whether or not you want to be a traditionalist or an outlier. A traditionalist would choose hickory, pecan, or mesquite. An outlier would demand beechnut. Beechnut is the most dense and therefore has the more intense nut smoke of any of the nut woods.

from the colder climates have more density than those grown in
year-round warm weather.
