Laser Treatment of Spider Veins

Laser treatment of spider veins is done in the office. The Laser produces a focused beam of light that pierces the skin and heats up the tiny spider veins under the skin. The spider veins absorb the heat. As the veins absorb the heat, their walls become destroyed and the blood in them become coagulated. The body subsequently reabsorbs these veins and they disappear over a period of time. Patients typically require about 3 to 6 Laser treatments for the spider veins to fade and disappear. The treatments are spaced out at 4 to 6 weeks intervals.

This treatment is usually well tolerated by most patients. Local anesthesia is typically not required. The patient may feel a tingling sensation. Cooling the skin during the procedure usually provides adequate comfort.
